Transitional Housing

When HCJC was incorporated in 2022, it was part of a broader vision to address housing needs at all levels: emergency housing, transitional housing, and permanent housing. Typically, individuals do not transition directly from the streets to market-rate permanent rentals. Several factors contribute to this challenge, including rising rental costs that are beyond the means of the working poor, barriers such as criminal backgrounds, rental history, and credit issues and the imbalance between housing demand and the limited housing stock in Jefferson City.

Transitional housing serves as that crucial middle step, providing individuals with a stable living environment while they work to overcome barriers and move toward long-term housing stability. The Transitional Housing group began meeting at the end of 2024 and continues to collaborate and strategize to develop solutions for those in need of temporary, transitional housing to regain independence and achieve housing stability.
