Thank you for your continued prayers, encouragement, and support for Housing the Community Jefferson City (HCJC). Your commitment to helping our neighbors experiencing homelessness has strengthened our organization and reaffirmed that our community cares deeply about finding compassionate, practical solutions.
Following the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation to deny our application for 107 Adams Street, the HCJC Board carefully evaluated our next steps. After consulting with legal counsel and other advisors, we have decided to pursue a revised strategy that we believe offers the best opportunity to move our mission forward.
HCJC will ask the Jefferson City Council to postpone the public hearing currently scheduled for August 3 until October 5, 2026. During that time, we will request a collaborative process with the City and community partners to determine the best path forward. This includes exploring whether another suitable location exists for the Resource Center and Emergency Shelter and seeking greater clarity regarding the standards that will be used to evaluate our proposal so the process is transparent, fair, and consistent.
Our mission has not changed—only our strategy.
HCJC remains fully committed to establishing a professionally operated Resource Center and expanded Emergency Shelter that complements the work of the Salvation Army, local churches, healthcare providers, and other community partners. We continue to believe Jefferson City needs a resource center where individuals can access services, connect with support systems, and begin the journey toward greater stability and permanent housing.
While we continue to believe that 107 Adams Street is an excellent location, our goal is not simply to secure a building. Our goal is to work with city leaders, neighbors, businesses, churches, and community partners to identify the best solution for Jefferson City—whether that is 107 Adams Street, another suitable location, or another collaborative approach that allows these much-needed services to move forward. If taking additional time results in stronger partnerships, broader community support, or an even better location, it will be time well spent.

We encourage you to continue writing letters of support to the Mayor and City Council and collecting signatures from individuals, businesses, and organizations on our community petition.
